Jewel of the Month: Unakite

Unakite is a mixed mineral appearing as a mottled rock consisting of pink Feldspar, green Epidote and Quartz.  Its color is olive green with spots of opaque coral and relates to both the Sacral (2nd) Chakra and the Heart (4th) Chakra.  Unakite helps to balance and align the emotional body, uprooting deeply suppressed feelings and bringing them to the surface for healing.  It helps to gently clear emotional blocks that keep us from moving forward in life.  Unakite assists us to release feelings of grief, especially if you are grieving for the loss of an ideal, or a dream of what might have been.

Jewel of the Month: Petrified Wood

Petrified Wood is formed when dead wood gets saturated with silicic acid and in the absence of air, solidifies through the loss of water.  Depending on the circumstances of its formation, its substance is replace by agate, quartz or more rarely, opal.  Petrified Wood vibrates with the root (1st) chakra, which is located at the base of the spine.  Petrified wood bestows a feeling of bond with the earth and of being in the right place at the right time.  It stimulates inner imagery and ideas, yet keeps us firmly planted in realty.  Trees are the overseers or chiefs of the plant kingdom.  They tower above the earth with their roots sunk deeply into the ground.  “They grow from the seeds of their forefathers and fertilize their children with their bodies as they depart”.  Trees represent the roots of new beginnings.  Petrified wood holds the records of how the growth from seedling to maturity takes place.  It is the stone of transformation assisting one to rise to ones highest chosen level.

Zoisite was first discovered in Austria towards the end of the eighteenth century and was named after the mineral collector Freiherr Von Zois.  Zoisite’s green color comes from the presence of chromium and vanadium and it forms in rough masses.  Zoisite masses occasionally have Ruby scattered throughout the stone.  Zoisite stimulates fertility and if Ruby is present it increases potency.
